January Meeting

January 14, 2020 SUFA Meeting Minutes

Meeting chaired by Lynne Greenleaf.
Joe Cunningham (quilt artist, author and lecturer) workshop.  We gathered money and created a sign up list, but did not have enough members sign up.  Lynne asked all interested members to get in contact with her before the 19th (email went out to all members to remind them) if they wished to attend.  Nickie (who will running February's meeting) will update us the status of the workshop.
Lynne will be out of town February and March so Nickie will chair those meetings.

 Upcoming meeting and event information
  • Art Perspective class/lecture by Royden Card will be in February or March. Jane will lecture on Theory in a future meeting. Brainstorming list to go to Nickie for scheduling.
  • Gallery 25 submissions:  Please bring in one of their art pieces appx. 9” x 12” or 8 ½” x 11” to display at the Gallery. Rosemary will be collecting these. Please put a sleeve on the back of the piece and your name. Sleeve directions have been emailed out.
  • Throw Pillow challenge is March 3, 2020
  • Everyone is asked to hand make a name tag and to wear it at the monthly meetings.
Now about the meeting. We had a four lovely lady weavers as meeting guest to discuss weaving techniques, portable weaving looms, fibers used and large weaving looms. Many beautiful samples of their woven works were brought in. Handmade portable small, large and triangular looms were displayed. Some made out of wood, some card board and even a loom made out of a picture frame.

Linda from Shed Weavers displays and sells her table runners and ponchos ( made on a triangular loom) at Ancestor Square and Alfogotos in St. George. I (Cindy Oxley) personally have one of her ponchos and a table runner.

Two of the gals were from Keyanta. They meet with other ladies as a group once per month. Sandra Sandberg is from the St George Weaving Studio located at 400 S Donlee Drive in St. George. This is up by the old Airport. Many of the looms located there were brought over from Dixie State University. The studio is participating in the Arts to Zion event now. We were all invited to come check out the studio and perhaps sign up for a class or workshop. We were also invited to attend the Weavers Guild held on Monday night once a month at The Roost 1075 S 960 E St. George.

Some Pictures of the homemade weaving looms.

And some of their work on and off the loom

December Meeting

Tina among her wool goodies

December 3, 2019 SUFA Meeting Minutes
Our annual Pot luck was held at this meeting. Everyone (but Shannan) enjoyed having dinner together. So many wonderful dishes were brought in by all.
Our guest speaker was Tina Cox. Her company is called Eye Full of Wool: Eye Full of Wool Website. Tina brought many samples of her felted hand dyed wool patterns and kits. Her colors were magnificent. She talked about how she started her business and where it is at today. We all had fun shopping after the presentation. She works out of her home and will let the group know when her next Open House will be.
Rosemary reminded us to bring in our 11” x 12” (approximate size) to the next meeting. These will be displayed in a Gallery in St. George. Sleeve must be on the back of your piece. Don’t forget your name must also go on the back.
Lynne reminded us the Pillow Challenge is due at the March 2020 Meeting.
Nickie made some wonderful needle threaders that she offered to all of us as a gift. What a nice special surprise. Thank you Nickie.
And some pictures:

If you have any information about the pictures, please leave a comment.  I would love to know more about the gorgeous quilt which appears to be comprised of the most adorable transferred drawings mostly done by children.  Love. If nobody comments, I will track down the info at the meeting in January!

Be well.  See you at January's meeting.  Bring your deposit for the Joe Cunningham Wkshop.  Spots will fill fast.
