January Meeting

January 14, 2020 SUFA Meeting Minutes

Meeting chaired by Lynne Greenleaf.
Joe Cunningham (quilt artist, author and lecturer) workshop.  We gathered money and created a sign up list, but did not have enough members sign up.  Lynne asked all interested members to get in contact with her before the 19th (email went out to all members to remind them) if they wished to attend.  Nickie (who will running February's meeting) will update us the status of the workshop.
Lynne will be out of town February and March so Nickie will chair those meetings.

Now about the meeting. We had a four lovely lady weavers as meeting guest to discuss weaving techniques, portable weaving looms, fibers used and large weaving looms. Many beautiful samples of their woven works were brought in. Handmade portable small, large and triangular looms were displayed. Some made out of wood, some card board and even a loom made out of a picture frame.

Linda from Shed Weavers displays and sells her table runners and ponchos ( made on a triangular loom) at Ancestor Square and Alfogotos in St. George. I (Cindy Oxley) personally have one of her ponchos and a table runner.

Two of the gals were from Keyanta. They meet with other ladies as a group once per month. Sandra Sandberg is from the St George Weaving Studio located at 400 S Donlee Drive in St. George. This is up by the old Airport. Many of the looms located there were brought over from Dixie State University. The studio is participating in the Arts to Zion event now. We were all invited to come check out the studio and perhaps sign up for a class or workshop. We were also invited to attend the Weavers Guild held on Monday night once a month at The Roost 1075 S 960 E St. George.
