Did you know 2 members of Southern Utah Fiber Artists (SUFA) were featured artists at the Southwest Quilt and Fiber Art Festival? Cathie Purdy and Sue Gilgen. Today we will be featuring the work of Cathie. Enjoy!
Cathie sent me a lovely video of her booth, but it was too long for me to transfer to my computer. If I can sort it, I will put it up here or on SUFA's site. Too bad because it is good. Rats!
But I do have a picture of her primary exhibit:
These were taken in less than awesome light in her old studio, but you will get the picture.
It started with four seasonal photographs taken by photographer Craig Primas . Cathie approached him and asked him if she might translate those beautiful photos to fiber art. These are the result.
Below are some examples of Cathie's quilting. She doesn't use a computer. She comes up with her own quilting plan and does it all on her long arm by hand. I am sure there is a technical name for that. But it is a serious art form.
And finally a snippet of the kimono quilt. She deconstructed her friend's father's kimono reconstructed its elements back into a quilt. I would suggest zooming in to appreciate the quilting. Love.
She is an incredible long arm quilter, fiber artist, embroiderist, batikist, dye scientist😂... and above all, a terrific person. She is a Creative that I hope to post about here for many years to come.
Love ya lil Miss.
